TEXAS-- The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles says illegal moving companies are popping up across the state, and the country.
A new state law imposes fines and jail time against unlicensed movers but officials say you still need to do your homework.
To operate legally, a moving company must display a valid Texas Department of Motor Vehicles or US Department of Transportation license number on the truck.
They also warn you never to look for a mover on free internet sites.
