DENISON, TX -- The Denison Education Foundation held their annual Appreciation Cookout at the Loy Lake Arena Wednesday with the announcement of several big awards.
Christina Aleman was voted by her peers as the district's secondary teacher of the year.
She has been teaching senior English and AP English at Denison High School for 12 years.
Aleman says she's honored to receive this recognition and she considers teaching students a rewarding experience.
Aleman said, "I love working in Denison. Every day is exciting. I love working for the administration, from the top down. I don't see what I do as a job, you know. It's fun for me. "
Elaine Huffenberger was voted elementary teacher of the year.
She has been working in Denison ISD for 28 years as a reading interventionist.
