Denison Police to hold Citizen Police Academy

DENISON, TX --The Denison Police Department invites residents to join its Citizen Police Academy.

Lt. Mike Eppler says it is a program that teaches the public about the department and what officers do on a daily bases, as well as what training they receive. It features different divisions such as patrol, investigations and narcotics. There will also be a mock trial and firearm training.

"After it's over the graduates join the Police Academy Alumni Association then they start volunteering their time. They can ride out, they can do many may jobs and activities within the police department," Lt. Eppler said.

The academy begins March 18th. Classes are every Tuesday, for 12 weeks, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eppler says to qualify for the academy you must have a clean background, live or work in the City of Denison, and be at least 18 years of age. Applications can be found on the city's website.
