DENISON, TX -- The Denison Yellow Jackets are ready to kick off their season in their new stadium but there's quite a buzz surrounding the construction, and whether it'll be ready for the first home game.
The dedication of the new Munson Stadium has already been pushed back.
Today Denison ISD announced they have postponed their ribbon cutting and dedication for Munson Stadium from August 22nd to August 29th, the date of their first football game of the season.
Ask any Denison Yellow Jacket football player and they'll tell you they are more than excited to step on the new field at Munson Stadium.
"The hype's real big just with everything being new," said Senior quarterback, Devon Blanton.
"It really adds enthusiasm to the practice," said Senior tight end, Seth Black.
With some unforseen rainy weather over the past few months, Denison Superintendent, Dr. Henry Scott, says they've been forced to push back their dedication and ribbon cutting by a week later than planned.
"There's going to be some areas of the stadium that aren't complete, especially the sidewalks and parking lots and things of that nature," said Scott. "So we decided to put it back a week and do the dedication on the 29th."
Denison's first football game of the season against Frisco Liberty is also scheduled for August 29.
Scott says the team plans to play their scrimmage at Munson Stadium on Friday the 22nd and he hopes the stadium will be complete by then, but if not, Head Coach, Chad Rogers says they have a backup plan ready.
"We got three fields up here that we could use," Rogers said. "You know we have to have a plan that where we can address everybody, and we need to meet with the booster club."
Rogers says his players are ready to kickoff this season on new turf.
"It was good playing with all the tradition that it had, but with this new field we're gonna set the foundation," said senior wide receiver Chance Rogers.
"It's great having everything new because it just shows how much the community and everyone in the city wants us to do good and just helps out a whole lot," said Blanton.
The dedication and ribbon cutting for Munson Stadium is set for at 10 a.m. August 29th, which will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new High School at 8:30 a.m.
