HOWE, TX -- A reckless driver sent several departments on a manhunt Sunday afternoon.

Police say Alexander Urrutia hit a ditch along Northbound Highway 75 near exit 54.

They say after his vehicle flipped over he got out and left the scene on foot.

Howe police began their search just after noon and found him in a nearby field about 3 hours later.

Police suspect he was driving under the influence.

Police say they intend to file charges against the driver for fleeing the scene of an accident.

Highly doubtful since he has an ICE hold on him, if convicted he'll do his time and then he'll be deported.

Another outhouse lawyer speaks. How can you charge him for leaving the scene if you can't prove he was driving?

There is way more to this story then you are aware of, he was a wanted felon with previous convictions, using 3 aliases and possibly armed. Tom since your from Howe, would it made for better news since he was looking for another vehicle, if he had broken into your house or taken a family member hostage to get out? Howe PD, DPS Troopers and TDCJ were all involved in this, so this guy was not your average criminal. Armchair quarterbacking is easy to do when you have no idea who he was or how it snowballed after we found out who he was. We had firefighters walking around this field until we found out who he was. Be thankful your tax dollars were at work on this guy.

Anonymous, are you on something, we are going by what the story told us. And please put your name on here makes you look stupid behind that computer when you post that you are anonymous on here. The Howe cops were not the only ones out looking for this idoit either. Like Mike said he will be back out on the streets because he didn't kill anyone or hurt anyone

The guy passed us in Van Alstyne and I had to go onto the shoulder to avoid him hitting us, and other cars in front of us had to do the same thing. The guy was definetely under the influence of something. I wanted to get his license plate and call him in, but did not want to get a ticket myself in the process. Idiots like this guy never need to drive again

bob, the cops would have not done anything to you, if you seen this you should have called 911, and stayed with him. He could have killed someone

WOW ! Thank God y'all didn't get hit. That must have been scary. You're right, it was better not to go after him. You never know what he might have done.

You are lucky he didn't hit you and we are all lucky he didn't kill anyone else. Then you have morons on here like "Mike" and "me" who criticize the police and think they should let the drunk driver go! I'll bet they would feel much different if he had injured or killed their family members!! Put him UNDER the jail!

Well said! Mike and me were definitely at the end of the line when God passed out the Common sense.

Anonymous at 9:44, do you really think they will charge him with anything, a slap on the wrist and back out on the streets he will go, you need to know the laws! And like I said if they do charge him with anything back out on the streets he will go. Unless he killed someone or hurt someone in that wreck they will not do much to him at all! So before you start posting on here maybe you need to know the law a little better!

Mike, just FYI, driving drunk on public rodas is illegal. Maybe YOU should know the law a little better!
  • by Anonymous on Jul 16, 2012 at 07:44 AM
Wow...driving under the influence is illegal, folks. It doesn't matter if he hurt anyone else...the point is he needed to be found to determine if he was under the influence or not. And fleeing the scene of an accident is also illegal. Geez...know the laws. I'm glad they found him and dealt with him accordingly. Good job, Howe police!

Geez! Maybe he was just confused from just being in a rollover wreck & maybe going for help?!? If nobody else was involved or injured why charge him?! The police needs to worry about putting real criminals behind bars & stop using our tax dollars filling up the jails with non violent offenders!! ugh!

HE WAS DRUNK!! That makes him a criminal. Just because he did not kill or injury anyone this time just means he was lucky. Maybe next time we will all be lucky and it will be YOU he hits when he's driving drunk again. And he wasn't confused or going for help. He was hiding from the cops in a field. There were lots of people looking for him. He did not want to be found.

Why charge him ? **shakes head** Not a very smart thing. He needs his license taken away for a good long time.
