Drug shortage prompts TX prison officials to change execution methods

DALLAS-Texas prison officials are changing the way they execute death row inmates due to a drug shortage.
Texas has been using the sedative "pentobarbital" in combination with two other drugs. But the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said in a statement Tuesday that it will now use pentobarbital by itself.
TDCJ said it changed protocol Monday because its stock of one of the other drugs expired. Pentobarbital also is in short supply--its maker stopped selling it for executions last year.

The answer is heroin. Cheap and abundant, it kills accidentally all the time. Shoot enough to get them really high, and then just a little more to stop their heart. I'm against the death penalty, but if you absolutely have to execute somebody with an injectable, H will do the trick.

Need to just line them up and shoot them. Why should they get nice meds to sedate them before they die. They should have to suffer just like their victims had to suffer!!!

...or a rope. Or a firing squad. Hydrogen Cyanide is also very cheap and abundant. If it wouldn't evoke memories of the Holocaust I'd say use Carbon Monoxide, but that does tend to make them die twitching and choking. Has anyone ever watched a man die? I mean looked into his eyes as the life leaves his body. Ever watched a man with a gunshot wound to the head bleed out in a twitching, wiggling mess on the ground as his nerves die? One of the reasons they banned Sparky was the sometimes head fires and the smell of cooked flesh. It will make the most hardened man puke in his shoes.

Well I watched several people die in my life. And I watched MANY cattle be killed. We all die the same, animal and man alike. Always twitching and jumping around, always gasping for air like a landed fish, and always clawing for a second more of life. During the Holocaust, there was an extreme amount of suicides among the SS men before they started using the gas chambers...when they shot the Jews at the trenches. They would have to drink themselves into oblivion to shoot women and children, while being told they were "heroes". I know executing a criminal isn't the same as a woman or child, but the effects are the same. You may some bad boy among your friends, tough and arrogant. But spend a week shooting children in the back of the head and watching them die twitching around like a ran over squirrel and see what effect it has. Well..likely your gonna blow your own brains out one day to escape those images in your mind. Old Prison guards that used to watch the criminals heads explode on Old Sparky will tell you the same thing. We make killing more humane not so much for the criminals, but for the executioners!
