Durant High School student recognized for being a National Merit Semifinalist

DURANT, OK -- A Durant High School student was recognized at Friday afternoons pep rally for his success in academics.

Zachary Taylor is a National Merit Semifinalist. He is one of 1,600 students in the nation that holds the honor this year. Taylor says he claimed the spot by scoring high on his PSAT. The senior has worked hard to earn the title. He not only spends a great deal of time studying, but he is also involved in soccer, band and is on the school's media team.

"I feel like it's the results of the choices I've made. Going through school and choosing to take challenging classes and work hard and always trying to improve myself, " Taylor said.

After high school Taylor hopes to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York. He wants to study to study civil engineering.
