ECU's Oklahoma Business Week receives award

ADA OK -- A local college camp for high school students is receiving recognition across the Midwest US.

East Central University’s Oklahoma Business Week recently received an award for the Best Conference in the Great Plains region from the Association for Continuing Higher Education.

The camp is designed for high-schoolers from ninth to twelfth grade to start teaching them the skills needed in the business world.

Many executives from businesses like AT&T and Vision Bank come out to help, as well as government officials like State Senator Susan Paddack, and Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby.

"A lot of students are intimidated by business," said ECU's School of Business Dean, Wendell Godwin. "This gives them a chance to come in in a real friendly manner and learn about business. There’s a competition that we put them through and all different stages of managing, owning, and leading a business.

Oklahoma Business Week will be held in June at the new ECU School of Business. The deadline to apply is May 1st.
