Elderly woman arrested for drug dealing near school

PONTOTOC COUNTY, OK -- An elderly woman was arrested earlier this week for allegedly dealing drugs near a Pontotoc county school.

83 year old, Patsey Maxwell, was arrested Monday.
Investigators say she was distributing marijuana within 2,000 feet of Stonewall public schools.

"And so they had worked for several months watching and making a case on her. Search warrant was served on her residence Monday afternoon," said Pontotoc County Sheriff, John Christian.
He says multiple agencies were involved in Maxwell's arrest, on the same day the warrant was served.

Christian said, "She was taken into custody when they served the search warrant. Four pounds and eleven ounces of Marijuana was recovered from the residence along with a handgun and an amount of cash."

Christian says there's no evidence to support that Maxwell was distributing to anyone at the school, but they take that close proximity seriously.

"She lives close to the Stonewall school and, of course, that enhances the charge if you're within 2,000 feet of the school," said Christian.

"To me, that's too close to the school and too close to my hous," said neighbor James Walker.
Walker says most of his neighbors have kids and he's never heard about any crimes like this anywhere nearby.

"As far as I know it has been. I mean, like I said, this is a surprise to me, especially for this lady," said Walker.

Sheriff Christian says Maxwell bonded out of jail Monday night on a 50,000 dollar bond.
