Executive meetings regarding Savoy Chief of Police

SAVOY, TX -- The Savoy City Council spent over three hours in executive session Friday night, at issue Police Chief Levi Cunningham.

We spoke with Mayor Joe Isom after the executive meetings. He did confirm that the meetings were held in regards to the Chief of Police, but that no action has been taken at this time and that the council will look into policies and procedures. The mayor will not give us details about any issue regarding Chief Cunningham.

More than a dozen people showed up at city hall to support the chief. Residents we spoke with say in just four years he has turned the city around for the better.

"If we lose him there's going to be a big hole in this city right here," Savoy resident Richard Pennington said.

"I've been around here quite a bit and I think this young man has done a real good job," Fannin County Commissioner Gary Whitlock said.

"He's a wonderful kid. Excellent officer," Former Savoy Mayor Moose Downs said.

"We haven't had the vandalism that we've had at the parks, you know, he's been really involved in that as well as the drugs we had in town. They're pretty much gone," Savoy resident Kelly Warlick said.

"In my opinion one of the best officers we've had. He's helped me on occasion," Jonathan Warlick, Savoy resident, said.

The mayor did say there will be another meeting to discuss the policies and procedures related to this matter, but says a date for that meeting has not been set.
