SHERMAN, TX -- Highway 75 at FM 1417 was closed for several hours Thursday morning, after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car around 5 a.m.

Sergeant D.M. Hampton, says two accidents happened within minutes of each other around 5 a.m.

The first occurred when 70-year-old Julian Gann was traveling the wrong way on highway 75, attempting to merge southbound onto the northbound lanes.

Gann struck a Dodge Charger head on.

After the crash, Gann got out of his vehicle and crossed Highway 75 to check on the driver of the Charger. That's when he was fatally struck by a Toyota Prius.

Sergeant Hampton said the driver of the Dodge Charger was taken to a local hospital with the non-life threatening injuries and later released.

The driver of the Prius was not injured.
