Fatal Shooting in Marshall County

MARSHALL COUNTY, OK -- A woman is in critical condition after authorities say she was shot at a Kingston home by a man already wanted by law enforcement.

The Marshall County Sheriffs Office and the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation say they are still trying to figure out why a man apparently shot his ex-girlfriend at a Kingston residence this afternoon. We spoke with them and a neighbor who lives just yards from where the crime happened.

Billy Joe Bowie says he has lived on Cardinal lane for 11 years.

"We've had a few shootings around here. Cops here at least once a month," Bowie said.

Friday afternoon Marshall County Deputy David Barnes says they found a 20-year-old woman shot and Joshua Mahaffey dead at a mobile home across the street from Bowie's house in the 13000 of Cardinal Lane.

"It appears that Josh Mahaffey came to this residence looking for an ex-girlfriend. Shot her and then shot himself," Barnes said.

Barnes says the woman was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. He says Mahaffey had previously attacked her and deputies had been searching for him for several weeks.

"We've been looking for him for him. He has an arrest warrant out for him for domestic assault and battery and we've been looking for him for quite awhile," Barnes said.

Barnes says a man was with Mahaffey at the time of the shooting. They are still looking for him, but his name is not being released at this time. Barnes says that individual is not considered armed or dangerous.

Bowie calls the incident tragic.

"Things happen in everybody's neighborhood. We've got the good and the bad and when the good deals with the bad that's the way it goes," Bowie said.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the woman who was shot, or the identity of the other person present at the time of the shooting.
