Fireworks sales up this season

SHERMAN, TX -- With Fourth of July right around the corner, people all over are preparing to celebrate the birth of the country.

Fireworks World says that they have seen an increase of 75 percent from last seasons sales. Not only are they generating revenue, its all for a good cause.

Hunter Stone will be a senior at Sherman high school next year, and he's working at Fireworks World off of Highway 82 for his band.

"I do have fun. In fact, I asked off from work to come over here," said Stone.

For 8 years now, Fireworks World has been pairing with schools to help out various clubs and even the schools themselves raise money.

HUNTER: "they said work four shifts at this fireworks store and we'll give you a discount on our trip that we're going to go to."

And business this year for fireworks is up as well.

"It's directly related to the weather. The more water, the more sales there are for sure," said Jim Cooper, Co-Owner of Fireworks World.

But even with the celebrations, it is important to understand that there are rules.

In the city of Sherman, it is illegal to even drive through the city with fireworks in your possession.

"To buy them and bring them into the city, to either pop in the city or to save for a later date, by the letter of the law it is a violation," said Sherman Police Department Sergeant Bruce Dawsey.

Forget the fireworks---who else saw the silent bright red-orange triangular craft that went over Durant on the 2nd and the two bright orange red rod shapes that went over on the 4th?

Actually, you are right. The economy has gotten better each of the last three years. People have more to spend on worthless fireworks, and the stand operators & suppliers will have extra money to put back into the economy. Too bad the Republican party has blocked all jobs bills that have been put to a vote. We would be even better off as far as job growth. But that would not fit the Republican agenda. More jobs would mean that Obama would have a better chance of re-election (Which he will be anyway). A weak economy, and less jobs are what the Republicans have been hoping for since Obama took office. Their only agenda was to get him out of office and get a Republican in, so that their rich corporate friends can get whatever they want passed into law. A growing economy is the enemy of the GOP.

The republicans rich corporate friends? You mean like GE? No wait, that is the largest corporation in America, paid NO net taxes last year, and is in TIGHT with Mr. Obama. Or do you mean the wealthy union bosses? Oh no wait, those are Obama's buddies too! It seems to be working out well for them too - look how good teh unions are doing! Stockton, California is a perfect example of the great public unions that Obama so dearly loves! PS - I hope the republicans do anything they can to get this socialist out of office!

Ok, let me make sure I understand. GE, a prime example of capitalism, is tight with Obama, who you say is a socialist. Tight with Obama, who you and your ilk insist is an enemy of business, but a huge towering comercial success story like GE is in his corner. Something doesn't make sense here, and I believe it is you.

People better celebrate the birth of our country because, with the administration we have in place now, we are slowly experiencing the death of our country. They are anti-Christian, anti-business, demonize anyone who is successful in life, want to give handouts to everyone else, open our borders to anyone who wants to come here, refuse to enforce our rule of law, etc. We are in rapid decline and we had better change it soon! At this rate, we will look like the Soviet Union of old in a very few years!

What a crock. Demonize anyone who is successful? You must be smoking bath salts. Proposing the top income bracket pay a few percentage points more in income taxes is hardly demonizing. Heck, even with a few percentage points more, that would still be far lower than those same folks were paying back in the 1950's. Anti-business? The tax rate on small business has decreased under Obama. If you used your head, you would realize that small businesses received huge support via the economic stimulus package. All that money that was funnelled into the system made its way through small businesses. That's where most folks spend their money. You just don't relaize how far the economy was sinking when Obama took office. If it weren't for the stimulus, even more small businesses would have suffered. Can you imagine how many more would have suffered if he allowed GM to go under? And Christianity? Looks like it's doing quite well. And really, why should any business, religious affiliated or otherwise, be immune from our labor laws? BTW, regarding your contention about not enforcing our rule of law, you apparently have a very short memory: 1. Far more illegals have been deported under Obama than under Bush or any previous administration, and 2. On several occaisons when Bush was signing bills into law, he made 'signing statements' where he outlined what provisions of those bills he would choose not to enforce. BTW, the USA isn't even close to becoming like the Soviet Union. Your suggestion is nuts.

Gasoline was $4.12 National Average the last year of Bush. I paid $3.15 a gallon in Greenville yesterday. Unemployment rate did hit 11% first year Obama took office...now down around 8%. (Personally I have had a job the past 20 years) Yes...it could and was MUCH worse.

The average gas price when Obama started in January of 2008 was $3.11 per gallon. That was the average - usually much cheaper around here, probably $2.75 per gallon so get the facts before you spew! Why did Obama's fuel czar say he wanted gas to be over $5.00 per gallon so Americans would seek other alternatives???

@ Anonymous So according to you, when Obama took office gas was 3.11 a gallon right? OK..now its around that same amount ($3.15 in Greenville)..your point? I have no clue about Obama's fuel Czar...I won't be voting for him in November. I heard the Teapartiers screaming "Let him Die!" at a Republican Debate regarding health care for the sick...you think I care what sociopaths think?

Yes, they demonize success, especially the "one percenters". You know, the ones who create jobs. Just a few more tax dollars from those already paying 90% of the taxes, right? Seems fair to me - NOT! Thank God small business taxes have decreased under Obama and the stimulus was so great - our economy might REALLY be suffering if it weren't for the brilliant moves. Also, even though you change the "rule of law" subject by saying "more have been deported under Obama", you had better get that word out because no one believes it from the guy who just REFUSED TO ENFORCE THE LAWS in Arizona and also said that, REGARDLESS OF THE LAW, certain ILLEGALS could stay!

What jobs did the "one percenters" create with their Bush tax cuts? Oh, wait a minute. They were the ones who cashed in on the Bush bailout after they ruined our economy. They were the ones who didn't hire Americans after they received that bailout. They are the ones who were back to record profits while working Americans were, and still are struggling to find decent work that is not being created by these corporations who are living large on the sweat of middle class America. And that small tax increase is only earnings OVER $1 million. Up to a million would still be taxed at the same rate. Most small business owners aren't millionaires. They are the job creators. They not only have received tax cuts from the Obama administration, they aren't going to be affected by an increase on the higher earnings. You far right kooks should really look up facts instead of listening to the dumbed down sound-bites that your masters have fed you. Maybe you wouldn't look like such an easily manipulated fools when you make a comment.

I nor anyone else can do much about what people believe. The comment the poster made about the rule of law was a reference to immigration. That is obvious, because that phrase is the right wing soundbite of the week due largely to the Arizona thing. The righties have a new one liner almost every week, you know. Sometimes they recycle them. One week it's about birth certificates, other weeks it's about muslim apologists or Obama being a socialist commie facist emporer. So I didn't change the subject, and in fact addressed it not only with respect to the immigration issue, but also pointed out that GWB picked and chose which provisions of various laws he would enforce, AND that he did a much worse job of enforcing immigration policy than has Obama. However, facts are facts, and the deportation numbers speak for themselves. Some don't care to hear those facts, because it interferes with their uninformed opinion. The SCOTUS found that Arizona can check immigration status after someone has been detained or arrested on an other charge. Big deal. That has already been happening all across the country. What the SCOTUS told them they can't do do is go around checking everyones papers just because they look Mexican; kinda like what was being done back in Nazi Germany. actually, it amazes me that a anti-facist such as yourself (since you regard Obama as a facist), would think such a practice would be desirable. Anyway, with respect to demonizing success, you are all wet. Obama is constantly talking to folks about bettering themselves through innovation, hard work, and higher education. You just choose not to listen. BTW, 1% don't create jobs. Demand creates jobs. And in actuality, most small businessmen are NOT 1 percenters anyway.

Why do you think that all Liberals are somehow unemployed and on welfare? Most people on welfare don't even vote! In fact, more liberals are college educated, career-oriented. Steve Jobs. Bill Gates. Warren Buffet. Some of the wealthiest people in our country are liberals. Wealth in and of itself is not the bad guy. Its the notion that all your wealth came by your own efforts and doesn't require a society to assist you that is wrong. I don't care how you got your wealth, you needed a road and an educated workforce to make it happen...just to name a few of the public benefits that got you there.

Amen to that. Sit at ER some nights and watch the welfare people come in. It doesn't matter the cost they aren't the ones that will be paying the bill. The people that work and pay taxes will have to try to wait til the next day because even with ins we can't afford the ER prices. They can sleep in the next day while we work so our taxes can pay their welfare.

@ Anonymous Well my ER Co-Pay is $100. That's it. And since I haven't had to go to an ER in like 10 years, that is cheap if I need it. And once you get admitted, after the 8-12 hrs waiting in the lobby, you can call your insurance company to see what tests and procedures they cover to avoid any unexpected expenses. If anything, ACA will help lower ALL our insurance premiums and medical costs by ensuring that more people are financially accountable for their own health care and REDUCING the effects of the freeloaders. You would think making people support themselves and their own medical needs would be a conservatives wet dream...
