Five local schools receive grant money from Dollar General

SHERMAN, TX -- Five local schools each received part of a $20,000 grant today from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The Dollar General Corporation awarded the grant to the Sherman and Denison branches to distribute to local organizations.

They doled out the money between The Grayson Literacy Team, Denison High School, Terrell Elementary School, Sherman High School and Fred Douglass Early Childhood Development Center.

The grant is a part of the company's national fund raising effort, asking for customers to donate their spare change after a transaction.

The local branches received the grant because they were among the top donors in the country last year.

"My associates are behind this 100 percent, said Rock Moon, store manager. "And they see what comes out of it and how it helps the customers."

Local organizations can also apply to grants through-out the year...from the dollar general literacy foundation.
