Four fire departments fight Denison grass fire

DENISON, TX -- A controlled burn got out of hand this afternoon in Denison, scorching more than 50 acres.

Denison firefighters say just before 2:00 p.m. they got a call that a large pasture was on fire at Oak Ridge Road and Elmore Road. Three other fire departments worked to put out the blaze.

A gas line and high voltage power lines were a concern, but after about an hour the fire was under control. Firefighters say dry conditions helped fueled the blaze.

"Even though we're not under a burn ban, the fuel, the grass is, the trees are extremely dry. So, if you do burn, use preventative measures. Mow around the area, have a water hose, fire extinguisher close by and if anything happens quickly call 911," Batallion Chief, Keith Bates, said.
