Friends remember Ardmore woman killed in boating crash

ARDMORE, OK - Friends of the Ardmore woman who died in a boat collision over Memorial Day weekend said her death has shocked the entire community.

Robbie Brooks was loved by many.

"The first time anybody meets Robbie Brooks they get a hug, not a handshake," Friend and co-worker Adam Calaway said.

The 52-year-old wife and mother was ejected during a boat collision around 10 p.m. Saturday.

Rescue teams recovered her body from Lake Murray Sunday evening as devastated family and friends watched from the shore.

"Her generosity, her compassion, her kindness, they are all going to be very much missed," Calaway said. "It's like a light went out."

Co-Workers and friends tell First News Brooks is a Madill native who worked in accounting at The Noble Foundation in Ardmore and lived to help others.

"She was so active in charitable organizations and so active in the community," Calaway said. "So many people loved her and so it's a difficult time for everybody."

Authorities investigating the boat crash said the driver of the other boat, 34-year-old Kevin Hitt, may have been drinking.

Prosecutors said the investigation is ongoing and as of now no charges have been filed.

"She was best friends with everybody, that's the thing about Robbie is that she just loves people," Calaway said. "She loves helping people, she loves being with people, she would do anything for her friends and family and anybody."

Many friend were too distraught by the loss to speak on camera, but said Brooks will never be forgotten.

"She would give anything for anyone and so this community lost someone very special," Calaway said.

The eight other people involved in the accident were not injured.

Brooks' husband and son were both onboard at the time of the collision but we could not reach them for comment.

We have been told funeral arraignments have not been finalized.
