Gainesville Mother to serve life in prison

GAINESVILLE, TX--A judge has sentenced a Gainesville mother to life
in prison without parole in connection with the death of her 4-year-old

A jury recommended the decision for Catrina Maldonado last night after
she pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child in the first degree causing
serious bodily injury.

Nathan De Alejandro was found unresponsive in September 2011 with
severe burns covering more than half his body.

Authorities said the burns occurred two weeks prior to Nathan's death and four adults failed to get him medical treatment.

Johnny Lee Alexander and wife Matilde pleaded guilty to felony charges related to Nathan's death and both have been sentenced to
eight years in prison.

A trial is set for November for Maldonado's boyfriend Johnny Earl Alexander, who authorities say has admitted the burns to Nathan's
body occurred when he was in his care, but claims they were accidental.
