Gainesville bridge torn down for Pecan Creek project

GAINESVILLE, TX-- The City of Gainesville is continuing major road work as part of their Pecan Creek Flood Damage Reduction Project.

Tuesday, contractors with the Corps of Engineers tore down the Belcher Street Bridge.

Wednesday, the Scott Street Bridge will be closed for repairs.

The project began in September of 2009, in an effort to deepen and widen Pecan Creek, and alleviate flooding.

In 2007, three people were killed after area floods.

The Pecan Creek Bridge Replacement Project is scheduled to to be completed by mid February of next year.
