GAINESVILLE, TX -- A fire at a Gainesville solid waste facility is now under control but firefighters will remain there applying water and monitoring the site.
The fire was reported around 10 AM by an employee at the facility located off I-35 Southbound. The fire was limited to the transfer station building. Non essential personnel were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
According to City Manager Barry Sullivan, they're investigating what caused the fire and the estimated damages.
Sullivan said, "Right now we have no idea on total damage to the facility. We're still not able to get inside because of the fire. Once we have the fire out, we will start the investigation to the cause and we will start looking at what we will have to do to operate."
Solid waste collection throughout the city will continue as scheduled for the week.
