GARVIN COUNTY, OK -- The name of the woman killed in a fire south of Elmore City Saturday has been released.
Garvin County Sheriff Larry Rhodes says Nelda Shreve died after her home on County Road 3130 caught fire around 1:45 p.m.
"We arrived on scene and there was smoke starting to show, coming through some of the windows, but we had three firefighters make entry into the home," said Pernell Fire Chief Brent Balentine.
Investigators say an acquaintance of Shreve was injured while trying to put the fire out before crews got to the home.
"He was on scene when our fire trucks arrived on scene and he was trying to do what he could and he suffered a little bit of smoke inhalation," said Balentine.
Balentine said that man is being treated at a hospital in Paul's Valley.
No word on his condition.
He said with the help of Elmore City and Katie fire departments the blaze was put out in about 30 minutes.
"We get here as fast as we can and it's just unfortunate the incidents that happen sometimes," Balentine said.
The Garvin County Sheriff's Office and State Fire Marshall are investigating. Balentine said they are still investigating a cause, but arson has been ruled out.
