Gary VanDeaver speaks in Paris

PARIS, TX-- Texas House District One Republican Candidate Elect, Gary VanDeaver, spoke to dozens of people in Paris Thursday night.

VanDeaver unseated current State House Rep. George Lavender in the March primary election, and is unopposed in November. This is his first time in politics, he recently retired from New Boston ISD.

In the upcoming 84th legislative session, Vandeaver plans to hit on four key issues: the border, water, transportation and education.

He says he is going in with the best interest of Northeast Texas.

"I want to go to Austin and represent Northeast Texas," said Gary VanDeaver. "I'm not interested in going down there and falling on a sword for some political ideal, I'm there to represent the people I serve."

VanDeaver will be sworn in this January, and says he plans to open an office in Lamar County sometime next Spring.
