ARDMORE, OK - They practice, swing and then it's off to the next hole. It's a rhythm most golfers are familiar with.
But the golfers that are making their way across the green aren't just teeing up for fun. They're swinging for a good cause (swing)
The Ardmore Masonic Lodge is raising money to give scholarships to high school seniors.
Member Phillip Eggenberg said one boy and one girl from Ardmore, Plainview, Dickson and Springer schools will get the award.
"It goes to college or vocational, education," said Eggenberg. "Anything to continue their education."
Ten teams made up of four golfers turned out Saturday to support the cause that means so much to the masons.
"Education and charity both," said golf tournament participant Tony Hollar. "They're both important to us. That's what we do."
The Lodge gives away between $10,000 and $15,000 in scholarships every year. Each scholarship is at least $1,000. And to swing that kind of money the Ardmore Masons have some help driving toward their goal.
"The Masonic Charity Foundation gives us matching funds so every dollar we raise we double," said Eggenberg.
Students who want to score a scholarship can fill out an application from their counselors. After choosing students based on merit and need, the Lodge will award the money upon graduation.
