Gordonville family loses home to fire

GORDONVILLE, TX-- As the Gordonville Fire Department puts out hot spots of an overnight fire, Teresa Sanders gathers whatever items she can salvage from her home.

"I found several of my photo albums burnt, but yet inside the pictures are still good. God's blessin' big time. He's with me through this, I'm not worried, I'm not worried."

Just a few days after the Sanders anniversary, they drove home late Wednesday night, to find three fire departments trying to save their house, of 39 years.

Gordonville Fire Capitan, Ray Achron, said right before midnight they were called to the 100 block of Gordonville Road.

"When I turned onto Gordonville Road right here, flames, I bet you, were 40 foot high."

Witnesses tell the Sanders family that a group of unknown individuals were shooting fire works near their front yard, but by the time the Gordonville Fire Department showed up, the whole house was engulfed in flames.

The Grayson County Fire Marshal's are not confirming the fireworks are to blame, they said they won't know what caused the fire until next week.

Achron said they battled the flames for 5 hours.

"Thank goodness it's green and not quite as dry as it was last year at this time, the way the embers were flying, we would have had grass fires everywhere," Achron said.

"I just want to be able to dig and get what little we can, and it's probably going to be very little. It's all underneath if there is anything," Sanders said.

As Sanders goes through the pictures that were untouched, she said no matter what was lost, she and her husband have the memories and their lives.

"God's good. I don't care if I didn't get anything, God is good," Sander's cried.
