PARIS, TX-- The grace period for the city of Paris' new smoking ordinance ended Wednesday.
The ordinance went into effect on March 24th, the day it was passed by the city council, but there was a 30 day grace period that prevented the police department from issuing citations.
The new smoking ordinance bans smoking in all public places. Bars and private clubs, as well as the use of e-cigarettes, are excluded from the ordinance.
Violators could be fined between $50 and $2,000.
Police Chief Bob Hundley says fines can start as early as Thursday.
