Grayson Co. Commissioners vote to replace outdoor courthouse stairs

SHERMAN, TX - Grayson County commissioners voted Tuesday to replace the outdoor stairs to the courthouse after they were damaged in the December ice storm.

The total cost, $57,000, will be covered by insurance. The soft limestone stairs were last replaced 12 years ago, but they were damaged during the December ice storm.

The county has tried turning them over, and when that didn't work, looked into just replacing the 26 damaged steps. But they couldn't get a matching limestone, so the insurance company agreed to replace all the steps.

"It'll be really nice because they look bad, they're a trip hazard, and we really want our old building to look like the majestic building that she is," county purchasing agent Jeff Schneider said.

The project is expected to start in four to five weeks and will take a few days to complete.
