GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS -- Grayson County is now under a burn ban.
This morning Commissioners approved a county-wide burn ban.
Assistant County Fire Marshal David Gallagher says the decision was made mostly because of the dry, hot weather we're experiencing, but also as a precautionary measure after last summer's grass fires.
He says commissioners decided last year that if the drought index hit over 600, they'd declare a burn ban.
Gallagher says that today, our drought index hit 624.
Gallagher says while the ban's in place, you'll need to avoid starting fires at campgrounds and other outdoor locations.
