Grayson College Jazz Combo performs

DENISON, TX -- Dozens came out to enjoy the smooth sounds of the Grayson College Jazz Combo Thursday evening.

Students have been working all semester perfecting their jazz skills as part of a program at the college. Thursday's performance was part of a Fall Concert Series.

Instructor, James Dering says teaching jazz to young students is rewarding, and he hopes the music genre will stay alive.

"I just want to do my part to help keep jazz alive in this area. I used to live in New Orleans and used to play there, and of course jazz was every where. And it's not so much here, and that's ok. But, I enjoy jazz myself and I really truly love teaching jazz, and so it's just been an honor and a pleasure for me to get to teach these students how to play, " Dering said.

If you'd like to check out a student performance, the final concert will be Tuesday, December 11 at 7 p.m.
