Grayson County establishes sexual assault response team

Grayson County officially created a new sexual assault response team today.

Officials gathered at the district attorney's office to sign protocols.

SART sets up a local sexual assault nurse examination program.

Joe Brown, district attorney, said a nurse can evaluate victims to collect forensic evidence.

It's a collaboration of Grayson County law enforcement agencies, the Children's Advocacy center and the Crisis Center.

Brown said it will make it easier to prosecute sexual assault cases.

"Until now, we've had to go to the metro-plex, victims have been inconvenienced, been re-traumatized, local law enforcements had to go down to the Metroplex," he said. "So we needed somewhere here, that we could have a doctor and a nurse that could perform these evaluations."

Officials said the SART team should be in place and running in the next few days.
