ATOKA COUNTY, OK -- The Harmony School Board voted Wednesday night to accept the resignation of Superintendent Mark Thomas, who was recently arrested for drunk driving.
"We voted unanimously to place Superintendent Mark Thomas on administrative leave and approved his resignation effective June 30th," said Board President Cecil Mackey.
Thomas has been on leave from Harmony Public Schools since last month. Board members would not say why Thomas handed in his letter of resignation.
Kim Belcher, a teacher at Harmony Public Schools, is serving as acting Director.
Thomas was arrested in Coal County last month after Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers say he drove off Hickory Hill Road and hit a tree. They say he also drove away from the scene. When Thomas took a breathalyzer test, troopers say he blew a 0.22, almost three times the legal limit.
School board members would not comment if Thomas' resignation had anything to do with his arrest.
