CHOCTAW COUNTY, OK-- A Hugo man is behind bars after he shot at the Choctaw County Sheriff and Chief Deputy Monday, over a fence.

Chief Deputy Larry Hendrix says 61-year-old Newton Cook Junior, of Hugo, put up the fence across a church's property for the second time this year.

When Hendrix and Sheriff Terry Park went to take down the fence, Cook shot at them. Both Park and Hendrix took cover and drew down on Cook, who then ran inside his home and retrieved a shotgun.

After a 15-minute standoff, Cook lowered his weapon and surrendered.

He is currently being held in the Choctaw County Jail.
