Humane Society accuses Wynnewood animal park of abuse

WYNNEWOOD, OK--An activist working undercover at a Garvin County exotic animal park is accusing the owner of animal abuse, and says he has the video to prove it.

The owner says he's being attacked.

The GW Exotic Animal Park is one of Oklahoma's biggest tourist attractions, and according to the park's owner, Joe Schriebvogel, it's the largest exotic animal facility in the world.

The park is home to over 1000 non-native animals but is now under fire after a staff member of the Humane Society of the United States went undercover as a park employee last summer.

"We have got a situation spiraling out of control and dead tigers are piling up," a member of the Humane Society, says, "Both employees and children in the park were injured on multiple occasions by the tigers."

HSUS has filed a formal complaint against the park after claiming the undercover investigator witnessed abuse, questionable breeding practices and unsafe handling of deadly animals.

"What we are seeing at this place is constant breeding of animals. He is just accumulating more and more dangerous exotics. Oklahoma needs to pass legislation to stop this reckless breeding of animals," the society, says.

"There are two goals behind what is happening here. One is to discredit us, two is their donate button. Their donate button today is going mad because people who don't know me and have never been here, don't know any better and don't know who the HSUS is," Schriebvogel, says.

Schreibvogel denies these allegations and believes the animal rights group is just trying to get back at him for speaking out against the group during last fall's tragic incident in Zanesville, Ohio when animals escaped a privately owned park and the owner allegedly commited suicide.

"I went the last three weeks and testified in front of the senate of Ohio because of the Terry Thompson tragedy in Ohio where the animals all got let out and he killed himself. First of all I don't believe he killed himself. I believe he was murdered for this agenda."

According to the Humane Society, "This is a pattern we see when people get in over their heads, not having enough resources to care for their larger and ever larger number of animals at the facility. It is unsafe. There is going to be a very bad outcome in the end."

This is Joe the guy on the tape. The HSUS people are the only ones hitting tigers. We have the proof, the FBI is all over this and the reason they want me so bad is because I got to close to OHIO, take a look at

The real person behind this is Carole Baskin of Big Cat Rescue, Tampa Fl. She is in a major lawsuit with the owner of this park and gives the HSUS $100,000 a year to protect her. Read about her lies, deceit, & fraud as told by her own staff members. Her story should be a movie. Allegations of perjury, forgery, and even murder. Not a good person.

anti-donna... the posts are accompanied by supporting documents that you can send for as well as video and photos. Who would know the truth better than the former staff and volunteers.

I've heard about this guy. These exoctic beauties do NOT belong in cages! The owner needs to wise up and let the animals roam free on the prairies where they belong!

and yes I watched one Tiger get hit but this wasn't by the owner and I know the owner will take care of that situation immediately! Joe is very good with these animals has years of training and knowledge the only reason I could see a problem is if he didn't get rid of the bad apple that wasn't treating the tiger correctly HAS ANYONE PHYSICALLY WITNESSED THE OWNERS ABUSING OR NEGLECTING????? I didn't think so!

The problem is everyone takes on the assumption that GW's is Abusing the Animals but what they aren't saying is All of the Animals are being rescued from dire situations and severe abuse by the owner. PETA only records what they want you to see not what is really going on continued..........

If the owner feels he is being attacked, he has the power to defend himself. These caged animals, cannot defend themselves. What if he were caged and treated like these animals.

Hard to make any judgement. But to make claims of 'cruelty' one should at least spell out what acts are considered 'cruel' by the accuser. I was sort of with the owner until he threw out accusations of murder in the Ohio case. I could find no credible source to support that claim. If we have a paranoid owner in control of many dangerous exotic animals among us, someone might need to look into that situation pretty quickly.

Tony, Joe isn't the only one who thinks Terry Thompson was murdered. Too many inconsistancies. 1) Locks cut, not opened with a key. Which Terry had. 2) Gunpowder on the right hand, he was left handed 3) pants pulled down to ankles and genitals removed (I don't know ANYBODY who would do that before killing themselves) 4) Gun used was registered to a Sheriff's Deputy 5) In what world does the Sheriff and NOT the Coroner pronounce the cause of death. 6) How does 1 man let that many animals loose by himself and NOT get bitten or attacked before he could finish? 7)All of those animals didn't HAVE to be shot. Everyone knows that deep down. It made good press and helped pass this law. The autopsy report is public record to verify this.

Sorry for the typo. That should say meat industry.

Correct they are not a gov. Entity. So by getting a job at the park to film cruelty is against federal law. Thats all I'm saying. Or is that law in place only to protect big corperations.

Some more facts to the story, according to yahoo, is that this is the 4th time they've investigated, in 2006 he was fined $25,000 and his license was suspended for 2 weeks, and during 2009 and 2010, 23 tiger cubs died there. How did they die? What else has died? Tigers aren't the only animals there.

April, HSUS doesn't have the power to inspect or investigate as they re NOT a governent agency. Read the Governmemnt reports on the cubs..Tainted milk from the factory caused the deaths, by coming forward GW saved other facilities cubs
