SHERMAN, TX -- Hundreds celebrated the Hispanic culture Saturday at Sherman's 16th annual Hispanic Heritage Festival.

The event consisted of music, dancing, food and mechanical bull rides.

Organizers say the event celebrates the independence and cultures of six different countries in Latin America.

"It's very important, I think, for the people to be aware that these cultures exist here in the Texoma area, that their neighbors may be members of these cultures. And although we're very proud of being American citizens, we're also proud of our heritage," organizer Ed Diaz said.
