Hundreds participate in annual Relay for Life

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX - hundreds of people in Grayson County are fighting cancer tonight one step at a time.

Grayson County's annual Relay for Life kicked off around 7 this evening at Denison High School.

The Relay benefits the American Cancer Society by raising money for cancer research and raising awareness of what it takes to battle the disease.

Thirty-six teams have registered and 800 people are expected to take part.

But the event is open to the entire community and you've got all night to get out and hit the track.

"We have a lot of different theme laps. We have a nerd lap where you can dress up as a nerd and take your laps around the track. We have a dodge-ball tournament, we have a photo booth, we have a bounce house. Its like a carnival almost and its all raising money for the American Cancer Society," said Mary Linder, the event chair for Relay for Life.

The 24 hour event runs until 7 tomorrow morning to symbolize the fact that cancer never sleeps.

Officials hope to raise $100,000 for the American Cancer Society.
