PARIS, TEXAS-- The city of Paris appointed an interim city manager at an emergency council meeting Monday night.

Director of Finance Gene Anderson is assuming the role after city manager John Godwin was hospitalized with what the mayor describes as a serious heart problem.

Anderson says he's ready to serve the city however he can.

"It's a critical time with the city right now", said Director of Finance Gene Anderson. "With the budget process going on as well as all the technicalities of getting the bonds that we just recently voted issued."

Anderson served as interim city manager for 17 months prior to Godwin's appointment last year.

After six weeks the council will reassess the situation.
