Grayson County, Texas -- Family and friends said their final goodbyes today to a man who co-founded the Perrin Air Force Base Museum in Denison.

Funeral services were held this afternoon for Brigadier General John Elkins -- who died last Saturday at the age of 81.

Elkins is a retired U-S Air Force Colonel -- serving more than two decades in the military.

He later worked in the Tom Bean school district and as a faculty member at Grayson County Community College.

Elkins was the co-founder of the Perrin Field Historical Society -- which led to the creation of the Perrin Air Force Base Historical Museum.
