McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - A judge has dismissed a felony charge against a McAlester police officer accused of committing assault and battery on a woman while she was being booked in the county jail last year.
Special Judge Tim Mills ruled Monday that there wasn't sufficient evidence to charge Officer Sterling Taylor in connection with the June 2012 incident.
Prosecutors accused Taylor of assault and battery after he used a stun gun on Nakina Williams while she was being booked in the Pittsburg County jail on a public intoxication complaint. Surveillance video obtained by the McAlester News-Capital shows Williams appearing to spit at Taylor, who then used a stun gun on Williams.
The newspaper reports that prosecutors have announced their intent to appeal the judge's ruling.
