Weather Aware conditions continue overnight due to the potential for locally heavy rainfall. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 7 a.m. for the northernmost portions of Texoma including Atoka, Coal, Johnston, Murray and Pontotoc Counties Beware of flooded road-ways and never drive around barricades or into water more than six inches deep. High rainfall rates may reduce visibility and also increase the risk of hydroplaning. Turn around, don’t drown! Rain ends NW to SE during the day Thursday.
The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission has voted to permanently shut down a Texoma airport.
The Commission voted Thursday to begin closing Lake Murray Airport saying other area airports have greater need for the funding Lake Murray Airport receives.
They said because of a contract with the Federal Aviation Administration the state may be forced to pay back $184,000 in grant money.
The Commission will next ask the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to be relieved of those contractual obligations.
