Late Sherman firefighter honored

SHERMAN, TX -- Sherman firefighters honored a fallen brother Friday.

Captain Dan Shaw served the city of Sherman for 38 years. He passed away Tuesday, July 3. Friday, Sherman firemen hung a flag in his honor.

"Captain Shaw would do the same thing for any of us," Sherman Fire Chief, Jeff Jones said.

Services are tomorrow morning, and as part of the tribute, the procession will travel under the flag hung from the fire truck's cross ladders as they proceed to the gravesite.

Shaw's granddaughter and great grandson were at a loss of words.

"I was completely blown away.... Oblivious," Angela and Kenneth Shaw said.

"He was such a family man, and like the man said earlier, he was so traditional and he always took care of his family. And like he said, served his country," said Angela Shaw.

"Captain Shaw believed in tradition and was a true patriot, and this is the very least we could do to honor such a brave, brave man, a dear friend and a brother," said Jones.

"I was so saddened to see him today at the services, but when I came out and saw this, I was blown away. Thank you, Sherman," said Angela Shaw.

"Thank you. It's amazing," said Kenneth Shaw.

Services to celebrate Captain Shaw's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7 at the Waldo Funeral Home chapel.
Funeral honors will be performed at the gravesite by the Sherman Fire Department Honor Guard.
