SILO,OK -- A teen is being praised for her actions, after someone broke into her home.

(Dispatch: 911?)

(Teen: Yes, I'm at my house and someone just tried to break in.)

A 14-year old girl, whose name we wont reveal, says she was asleep on the couch at her home in Silo on Tuesday, when the intruder, who she believes was a man, knocked on the door and then busted it open.

That's when she ran to her room.

(Dispatch: Who's there?)

(Teen: I don't know. I've been in my room.)

"I didn't know what he was doing, and I didn't want him to come in my room and find me. Cause at that time I didn't have my bat yet, and didn't have any defense," said the teen.

"If mom and dad aren't home you don't answer the door and I'm glad she did what we told her to do," said the teens' mother Tonya.

Wednesday, we talked with the Silo mother, Tonya, about her daughter's terrifying experience.

She says she's proud of her daughter, for taking actions that investigators say, may have saved her life.

"She did what she needed to do. She stayed on the phone with the 911 phone-operator, and went into hiding, which was the best thing for her to do at that time," said Chief Investigator Nathan Calloway.

Nathan Calloway is the Chief Investigator for the Bryan County Sheriff's office.

He says there's been an increase in burglaries in Bryan County over the past few months.

He says he doesn't know if this home invasion is related to those burglaries and they don't have a description of this intruder, but the Sheriff's office does have a few leads they're looking into.

For now, the teen is sharing her story to help others.

"I don't want it to happen to somebody else that might be younger than me, that doesn't have a phone or doesn't know what to do," said the teen.

"What if she would've answered the door? What if he would've walked into her room and seen her in the closet? God was watching over her; that's all I can say," said the teen's mother.
