WHITESBORO,TX -- A local World War 2 hero has passed away.
Charles Baum of Whitesboro passed away on Sunday.
As a 24- year old army private stationed in the Philippines, his base was captured by the Japanese in 1942.
Baum survived the Bataan death march walking 90 miles without rest, food or water for six days.
He also survived 42 months as a prisoner of war.
The U.S. Army awarded Baum the Purple Heart, the bronze star and the Victory Ribbon.
Baum was 95 years old.
