PARIS, TX -- Paris police are warning residents after a lottery scam has been reported in the area.

Paris Police say they've received several calls from residents in recent weeks saying they've received calls from a 876 area code.

The callers are telling local residents they have won the lottery, but they must send cash to claim their reward. Officers say the area code is from Jamaica, preventing local officers from investigating further.

"The key thing to remember is that if you didn't enter a lottery, you're not going to win that lottery," said Officer Curtis Garrett. "So be real careful about when they call giving out personal information."

Authorities want to remind you to never give personal information, like your social security number, over the phone.

Paris police say, right now, there are numerous scam alerts posted for that Jamaican area code.

If you have received any calls, call Paris Police.
