Lowe's lends helping hand to CASA

SHERMAN, TX -- CASA of Grayson County got some special help Wednesday.

One national hardware store is working to build good will in the community.

"Every year, Lowes does a project called Lowe's Heroes outside in their community. And CASA is the project that we chose this year," said Jody Herrel, store manager for Lowe's.

Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, is relocating to a new building, but it's not quite finished.

That's where Lowe's comes in.

"We have a very small budget, and for them to come in and do this for us is such a tremendous help. It would take us a good while to come up for the funds to do this and it would be a very slow process for us," said Jana Garner, executive director for CASA.

Lowe's employee, Mike Kauffman, is one of the volunteers. His wife also volunteers for CASA, and she's one of the reasons he grabbed his tools. Kauffman's helping build CASA a new meeting room, from building walls, to hanging doors and installing sheet rock.

"She's very involved and so since I have some skills like this. I like to get involved and help when I can. And it's just fun to do," said Kauffman.

Jana Garner with CASA says they plan to move into the new space in August, And says Lowe's nailed the improvements.

"It's gonna make a big difference for us. It's gonna make us a stand alone. Kind of a one stop shop for us," said Garner.
