Man accused of killing mother on trial

BRYAN COUNTY, OK -- Court officials say the trial of a Durant man accused of killing his mother with a martial arts weapon, has wrapped up.

Now, it's up to the judge to decide his fate. 24-year-old, Ian Harley Edmondson, waived his right to a jury trial and entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, according to District Attorney Emily Redman.

Edmondson reportedly confessed to police, that he stabbed 54-year-old, Francis Sue Bertis, to death in her Durant apartment, in March of 2010.

Thursday, both the defense and the prosecution examined a licensed Mental Health Counselor who saw Edmondson after the homicide.

She stated that a mental competency evaluation was done two years ago.

No word when the judge will hand down his verdict.
