Man arrested after a standoff with Carter County law enforcement

CARTER COUNTY, OK -- A Carter County man was arrested yesterday accused of holding his girlfriend hostage and firing shots at officers.

Sheriff, Milton Anthony, says Scott Conley was taken into custody Wednesday evening, after a standoff with authorities at a residence in rural Carter County.

42 year old Conley was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, domestic abuse, and possession of marijuana.

Anthony says Conley's girlfriend called 9-1-1 around 5PM and told dispatchers Conley was beating and choking her.
When deputies arrived Conley was holding the female at gunpoint inside the home.
She was able to escape through a back door and was assisted by deputies to safety.
But Conley refused to come outside and began firing shots.

"The deputies thought that he was shooting at them, that's when they activated a tac team, because he had apparently barricaded himself in the house and wouldn't come out," said Anthony.

Sheriff Anthony says the woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries and has since been released.
Conley remains behind bars today on a $30,000 bond.
