BONHAM, TX -- A man escaped the Fannin County Courthouse Wednesday, while appearing for a felony charge.

Bonham Police Chief, Mike Bankston, says around 11 a.m. Wednesday, 28-year-old, Roger Michael Wooten, was in court for violating his probation. When the judge found he was in violation, and the bailiff announced he was under arrest.

Bankston says that's when Wooten ran out of the courthouse and down the stairs. Police found him about an hour later 6 blocks away from the courthouse.

Bankston says this has happened before in the past year.

"The courthouse makes a notification all the local agencies are notified, and if it looks like we need something from the prison as such as the dogs, they're notified and they're very quick to respond," said Bankston.

Wooten has been charged with a 3rd degree felony for escaping, Bankston says all local schools were notified.
