Would-be burglar shot at Sherman scrap yard

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX - The Grayson County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning shooting at Stinky's Scrap Metal off 1417 in Sherman.

The sheriff's department got a call at 3:30 this morning that an employee had shot an intruder.

Lt. Rickey Wheeler says there were two intruders on the property trying to steal scrap metal.

The employee confronted the intruders, shooting one in the leg. The other fled on foot and is still at large.

The suspect who was shot is in intensive care at Plano Medical Center.

"Sherman PD did respond out there to assist us. They brought their canine out and attempted to track where the subject fled to. I think the canine ended at the back of the scrap yard, somewhere out there," Wheeler said.

Lt. Wheeler says Stinky's Scrap Metal has been broken into in the past, so employees have been showing up periodically to check on the business.

Investigators have been at the scene all day working to identify the second intruder.
