"Every once in a while you'd hear him over there beating the dogs."
This neighbor, who doesn't want to be identified, says he called the Marshall county sheriff's office after making a shocking discovery on 27-year-old Keenan Gray's property off Lake Road in Lebanon.
"About a week and a half ago, I went by and saw one of the dogs laying out of the dog house and it was dead."
Gray was arrested on Thanksgiving on four counts of animal cruelty.
"When our deputies arrived, we found three dogs that had already died and two that were seriously malnutritioned," said Marshall county under-sheriff, Danny Cryer.
He says they took the surviving dogs to a local animal shelter for care and they're investigating how the others died.
"We assumed it was malnutrition, but after we had started investigating a little bit it looks more like it's going to be the dogs froze to death just due to their malnourished state."
Cryer says the suspect claims he didn't have enough money to properly care for the animals.
"It's too bad that the dogs had to end up like that."
The Marshall county resident says he has two dogs of his own and can't imagine them suffering or how anyone could let that happen.
"It's just terrible to have dogs laying out there starving to death."
Cryer says Gray's bond is set for $15,000 and they will file for a bond hearing to get custody of the remaining dogs.
