Miranda Lambert's MuttNation taking over management of hometown shelter

TISHOMINGO, OK-- After a unanimous vote, Tishomingo is handing over control and management of the local animal shelter to MuttNation.

MuttNation is the non profit organization run by local dog lover, and country music superstar, Miranda Lambert.

Miranda's mother, Bev Lambert tells us MuttNation decided to take over the lease when Tishomingo's animal welfare worker resigned. She says when that worker resigned, the city was left with no personnel for 70 dogs, and MuttNation wanted to step back in.

"We just think that its best for both entities," said City Attorney, Dustin Rowe, "The city council approved it unanimously by a 5-0 vote. We're looking forward to working together to make sure this facility is used for the best purpose that it could be and right now that would be handing it over to MuttNation to operate."

Miranda's Mom also told us that when Miranda visited the shelter about seven years ago, she knew she had to do something. Since then, she's had an active hand in the shelter.

"The facility has now grown into an elaborate facility much more suitable for what MuttNation would use it for which is an animal adoption facility," said Rowe.

Mutt nation will spend the next three years running the shelter and making improvements, with the goal of making the Tishomingo animals healthy and adoptable.
