Missing Gainesville boy found safe in California

GAINESVILLE, TX - An Amber Alert issued for a missing one-year-old Gainesville boy has been canceled.

Cooke County Sheriff Mike Compton says Jason Bailey Colwell was returned to Child Protective Services in California today.

Compton says the boy is the ward of CPS. His father, William Bailey Colwell of Gainesville, was supposed to turn his son over to CPS yesterday, but didn't. Instead he ended up giving the boy to authorities in Solano County, California.

No word yet on whether or not charges will be filed against the father.
