More details released in Atoka hospital investigation

ATOKA, OK-The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released more information to News 12 about its investigation into the Atoka County Medical Center.

A CMS report shows that the hospital does not meet the requirements to participate in the Medicare program and states that if the problems aren't fixed by May 10th, the hospital may lose its contract with Medicare.

Hospital board chairman, David Burrage, said many Atoka County Medical Center patients are highly dependent on federal aid.

"Since we're in a rural area, the majority of our patients are Medicare patients, so the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services are who pays us. And so they want to make sure that they're complying with their rules and regulations in order for them to continue," he said.

CMS and the Oklahoma Department of Health will be back to inspect the hospital in May.

We'll continue to follow this story.
